Crows Participate in Austin Toros Basketball Exhibition |
The Austin Crows were invited by the NBA Development League team, the Austin Toros to put on a halftime show at a recent game. Twelve Austin Crows players donned the Crows guernseys (and shorts) and played a kick and handball scrimmage on the basketball court during half time of the Toros game. Highlights of the night were seeing Noor and Lalo spray kicks into the speakers on the roof, the odd hard tackle or hit that got the crowd excited, and of course the photo session with the Toros girls. Well done to Mark Bedford for spearheading this event.

Austin Crows Support Movember |
November in Australia is famous for the time of the year when all men get to leave the Gillette razor in the drawer and against the wishes of girlfriends and wives, men get to grow out their moustaches and celebrate the month of “Movember”. With Movember now having worldwide significance, many of this year's Austin Crows players participated and helped raise nearly $1000 for men's prostate cancer research.
Crows president Mat King went with the Chopper Read style Trucker Mo, much to his wife Bec's dismay. Although we do notice some grey patches in there Mat. Lalo Herrera organized the event for the Crows and by the end of the month had enough upper lip hair to pull of the Dirty Sanchez look. Alex Corones, fresh from 2 months of backpacking around the US and Europe had a moustache that looked as if he had been backpacking around the globe for 2 months. Don Garcia, one of the Crows best fundraisers, looked quite terrifying. He was banned from dropping off his children at school and hanging around playgrounds as other parents were terrified he would steal their children. Karl Morgan was very excited to participate in Movember and added some flair to his duties as the Karl Morgan Band frontman. His band members contemplated renaming the band “The Porn Stars” but apparently the name was already taken. Noor Jehangir pulled off the Pakistani cricketer look without trying very hard and actually finished runner up in the Best Mo in Character Award at the Movember Awards Gala held at Six Lounge in Austin on December 3.

Well done to all those who participated in this year's Movember event and the Austin Crows look forward to supporting the event in future years. For more information you can go to http://us.movember.com/ .

Crows Extract Revenge on Tigers |
| On another hot Texas summer day, the Baton Rouge Tigers travelled to states capital city to take on the Austin Crows. The Tigers, with the help of some Houston players brought a strong squad of 28 players for the game. In just there second year of regular games, the Crows suited up 33 players. With the Zilker Park oval in magnificent condition, a vocal crowd anticipated a good contest.
.
The Crows started out strongly with ruckman Ryan Minnick winning the ruck contests and providing on ballers Jesse Leos, Lalo Herrera and Noor Jehangir first use of the ball. Dangerous small forward Rene Gloria marked strongly and slotted the first two goals of the game to get the Crows going. Revo player Ninja Jehangir followed suit to give the Crows a 21 point quarter time buffer.
With the large bench, the Crows were able to rotate its midfield and this worked well as players remained fresh. "Pizza" Dan Brooks came onto the field and immediately has his hand in several goals. Despite losing his bearings at one stage and missing a gimme goal, Brooks was one of the many solid players for Crows on the day. Jeremiah Dawson was his usual scrappy self, laying huge bumps and tackles on bigger, stronger opponents.
Crows first gamers Blake McLean and Brett Emerson came onto the ground and had an immediate effect with "Casper" McLean kicking the goal of the day with a 55 meter bomb during the second term. The Crows defense remained solid all day through the likes of Chad Benninghoff, captain Dave Enslow, Joe Long, Trey Gebhardt and Andres Campo. "Hitman" Ray Silva was putting his body on the line as usual and along with Gebhardt and Long, the defense worked well to repel all Tigers forward thrusts.
During the third term, the Crows put the game away with "Big" Jon Samuelson and Deren Wilcox (before being hurt) getting there hands on everything and kicking 3 majors between them. Phil Brereton and Stuey Davidson added clever goals and the Crows ended up running out comfortable winners in the end. The Austin Crows are now 5 wins and 2 losses for the year and move into 5th place on the US Footy ladder. The Crows will now put in a month of hard training in the lead up to US Footy Nationals in Mason, Ohio in mid October.

June 20th vs Dallas & Kansas City |
| Crows Split On Road Trip to Dallas
The Dallas Magpies groundsmen had the Celebration Park oval in pristine condition for the June 20 weekend tourney involving the Kansas City Power, the Dallas Magpies, and the top of the USAFL ladder Austin Crows. In sweltering conditions in Allen, TX, the Crows took a strong squad of 26 players to Dallas for the days action.
Against the KC Power, a powerful Austin effort allowed for the Crows to extract revenge on the team who took the USAFL Division 3 trophy from their grasp last year in Colorado Springs. Dedicated Deren Wilcox was elected captain for the day and chose to kick into the strong breeze at Celebration Park, which has quickly become known as the premier footy ground in all of North America. Despite kicking into the wind, the Dallas midfield led by Cambo and Eddie Kiel, moved the ball forward to create scoring opportunities for captain Wilcox, Phil Brereton, Ford Shanley, Noor Jehangir, and Mark Drinnan. Early goals to Wilcox, Kiel and Cambo had the Crows comfortably up at half time. Down back, "solid" Sam Harris and "Dirty" Dave Enslow gave the KC Power forwards nothing.
Kicking with the wind, Austin continued to dominate the middle and pile on the score. "Bomber" Smith came onto the ground and put the Power defense into immediate fright with his loud, barnstorming forward movement. Alex Corones did a fantastic job tagging the Power's best onballer and with an overall strong effort from the Crows they ran out 44 point winners.
Final Score:
Austin 7.8.50
KC 1.0.6
Goals: Kiel 3, Boyce 2, Wilcox 2
Best: Kiel (3 votes), Corones (2 votes), Harris (1 vote), Campbell, Minnick, Bomber Smith,
After a strong first game, rookie Mike Cook was brought into the starting lineup to provide the Crows with a strong presence at Centre Half Forward. Austin started a little slow as the midfield struggled to find the form they had shown earlier in the game. Robbie "Choo Choo Train" Descant was one of the few bright lights in the first half and gathered numerous possessions across half back.
At the half time break, down by 3 goals, the Crows were asked to lift and they did. Campbell, Herrera, Minnick and Jerry Dawson were starting to get touches through the midfield and pump the ball forward. Goals to Wilcox and Campbell gave the Crows hope of pulling off the come from behind win. Things started to get chippy as Dallas sensed a Crows revival and Ford "Falcon" Shanley flexed his muscle in a push and shove despite being clearly outweighed by around 100 pounds.
The Crows were fired up and moving the ball well but the Magpie defense remained strong through the last 5 minutes with the ball predominantly in the Austin attacking 50 metre zone. As the final whistle blew the Magpies were up by 12 points on the scoreboard.
The Crows will now turn their attention to the annual International Rules series with the Irish Cowboys starting on July 11.
Final Score:
Austin 2.4.16
Dallas 4.4.28
Goals: Campbell, Wilcox 1 each
Best: Descant (3 votes), Minnick (2 votes), Enslow (1 vote), Herrera, Benninghoff
